Madeira has several wetlands scattered across the island, like Funchal and Machico river mouths, Funchal harbour, and Lugar de Baixo lagoon. Besides the resident species like the Atlantic Canary, and summer visitors that use the surrounding areas like Cory’s Shearwater, Roseate Tern or Plain Swift, these coastal areas can be areas of confluence of interesting species of wildfowl, waders, herons and seagulls, as well as other migrants.
