The easternmost point of Madeira island is an impressive headland with arid landscape and nearby rocky islets. Besides its ornithological interest, the lanscape is dramatic. Some of the local specialities are Pallid Swift, Plain Swift, Berthelot´s Pipit, Spectacled Warbler, Rock Sparrow and Spanish Sparrow. This is also a good place to look for trans-saharian migrants during the Autumn migration. At night Cory’s shearwaters can be heard in Spring and Summer. Other seabirds like Little Shearwater also have been recorded breeding in the area. There is a pedestrian trail throughout the peninsula that ends in Casa do Sardinha Reception Centre.
