Madeiran Laurel forest is the largest patch of this kind of forest worldwide. It is a luxuriant habitat that invites us to take a peak into the past. It is a land that urges to be preserved. The Madeiran Laurel forest is classified by UNESCO as a Word Heritage site, and is protected under Madeira Natural Park. Ornithologically, some of the local specialities are the endemic Laurel Pigeon and Madeiran Firecrest, as well as the regional endemisms Berthelot´s Pipit and Plain Swift.
